King Fabbs

On day nine of our 2022 Music Interview Marathon, we speak to pop punk singer/songwriter King Fabbs about his ambition of being a solo artist and headlining his own world tour.

Artist’s Name: King Fabbs
Members: Fabian (Lead Vocals, Rhythm Guitar) & Brennan Kennedy (Drums)
Genre: Pop Punk
Founded: July 2021
Originated From: Calgary, Alberta, Canada
Discography: Your Safest Place (EP)

How would you describe your music?

My music is modern day pop punk with a glimmer of early 2000’s pop punk. Majority of my inspiration comes from other alternative bands so I naturally gravitate towards that sound.

What is your musical creative process like?

I usually write instrumentation first and then I do lyrics second. It’s the way I’ve always done it because that’s just how I operate. I never force myself to write either because if I start to force myself then I will not come up with my best work. So I only write when I’m in a good headspace for it because everything comes out naturally that way.

How did you start out as a musician?

For years I thought about being a solo artist but I never really started to truly consider doing it until early 2020. For years I wanted to be in a band but it just never worked out. I still really wanted to make music so I pretty much convinced myself to go solo and it turned out to be the best decision I ever made!

I started practicing and writing more and wrote my EP Your Safest Place over the course of a few months.

How did you come up with your stage name?

King Fabbs was a nickname I picked up for a short bit back when I was in grade 10. I had several nicknames from all the people I knew at that time. I eventually used King Fabbs as my Instagram name a bunch of years later. Then as I was deciding to pursue a solo career it just felt like the perfect name. I didn’t even really come up with any other ideas, this was the one.

Who influenced you within the music industry?

There are so many bands and artists that have influenced me! Green Day is the band that really changed me and introduced me to the world of rock music.

From there I started to discover so many other bands and some of my favourites are Paramore, All Time Low, State Champs, Slipknot, Marianas Trench, Bring Me The Horizon, Linkin Park, Fall Out Boy, Stand Atlantic, The Story So Far, Seaway, ROAM, and Twenty One Pilots.

Have you performed live much and what was your favourite gig to play at?

I have done a few live performances and my favourite was definitely my first show. There were many people dressed up in cow onesies and made for an amazing audience!

What is the best thing about being a musician?

The fact that I can express myself the way I want to. Music is my favourite art form and I love sharing it with others. Making music and performing is my passion. Every part of it is the best part!

What’s the biggest problem you’ve had to overcome so far as a musician(s)?

I have not run into any major problems yet. The biggest thing for me is just getting the money to put towards all of it. I work hard and grind for every dollar I make and I put so much of it towards all of this.

What plans have you got coming up this year?

My goals right now are to release my next single and my first music video for my song Safe and Sound.

What is your ultimate dream as a musician?

World Tour!!! I want to headline a massive world tour and hopefully bring along some of my other favourite bands! I want to share my music with the world and connect with everyone around the globe! I want to inspire people to be the best version of themselves.
