How would you describe your music?

Our music is quite dark and energetic. It has huge grunge influences, but mainly alternative rock sounds. It goes from soft ballads to poweful big-band songs. We love our acoustic sounds.

What is your musical creative process like?

A lot of the time it starts with only a few chords. After that comes the melody and then, depending on the feelings that it evokes in us, we soon have the lyrics for it. We like to think of music like some chanted poem, like a spell. And so the process of making it is quite magical,
because each of us usually starts with the same vision for the song.

Once it is finished, we don’t really know how we got to it. It feels the song was waiting for us all along!

How did the band form?

It was almost by chance, we met in the same place with the same intentions but we didn’t know each other. One day everything began to take shape and we discovered that we had the same musical tastes and the desire to form a band.

How did you come up with your band name?

Well, in the past on of us had been closely linked to the world of scuba diving and freediving. It always seemed very romantic that someone with just a breath of air in their lungs would enter another world so mysterious. So Freedivers seemed like a good name for the band.

Who influenced you within the music industry?

We have lots of references from grunge and alternative rock. Bands like Nirvana and Pearl Jam helped us define our sound. All four of us have lots of music that we love!

We also love singers and bands like Jeff Buckley, Paramore, Patti Smith, Soundgarden and others.

Have you performed live much and what was your favourite gig to play at?

We’ve done some concerts all across our country. To be honest we still remember our first acoustic show and it was so intimate and special! Loved it.

What is the best thing about being in a band?

We just love that we can express our fears, tastes, memories and hopes all into a song. To be able to distil your inner world in art is a very healing thing and we’ll always be grateful for the people that allows us to do so.

What’s the biggest problem you have had to overcome so far as a musician(s)?

Basically time. It’s very difficult for us to have time to dedicate to music, rehearsals, recordings and other things related to the band. We are not music professionals, and we have different jobs that make it difficult for us to dedicate time to music and even meet to rehearse, record, etc. For us, it is a big problem.

What is your ultimate dream as a band?

Well we don’t really think of success as money and prizes, we think of our ultimate dream as reaching to people and connecting with them. We really wish we get to the right people (or just about anyone that is open to listening to what we do) and create a big family all across the world captured and moved by music. We just want to get out there and create beautiful experiences and art and spread a message that’s needed.
