Music Interview: Luna Kiss

Luna Kiss

Today we speak to the Midlands alt-rock quartet Luna Kiss who tells us about their love of making music and their continuous admiration for the legendary David Bowie.

Band Name: Luna Kiss
Members: Wil (Guitar/Vocals), Chris (Guitar), James (Drums) & Tommy (Bass)
Genre: Alt Rock
Founded: 2010
Originated From: Coventry, UK
Discography: Echoes of Sound, Following Shadows, Lust For Blood

How would you describe your music?

Rock and roll with hints of punk and metal.

What is your musical creative process like?

Well, we tend to demo everything first. Every little idea, even the ones we don’t like. Then we listen back with fresh ears and then begin deleting the bits that we know won’t work.

After the deletion marathon is complete, we sometimes have something left that we can work with… sometimes.

How did the band form?

Chris and Tommy both met at Coventry University. Will and James both met at school. We all live in or around Coventry anyway so we all crossed paths locally.

How did you come up with your band name?

Crikey! It was so long ago we genuinely can’t remember. Probably something we thought sounded brooding and deep in our 20s years that we became attached to.

Who influenced you within the music industry?

Oh god, there’s a question…. David Bowie! Because we don’t necessarily believe he’s left the industry yet. Yes, he’s dead, but we think there are a few more nuggets of his to be released yet.

Have you performed live much and what was your favourite gig to play at?

Yeah, we’ve gigged a few times before. One of our favourites was Loreley Festival in Germany. It was an open-air amphitheatre that we played in and it was just a glorious day. Great music, food, drink and sunshine. It would be great to enjoy that again.

What is the best thing about being in a band?

Camaraderie. You aren’t in this alone. You’re part of a team and if one of you fails, you all fail. Yes, there are arguments but they are outweighed by the bonds you build working and partying together over years and years. It’s more family than family.

What’s the biggest problem you’ve had to overcome so far as a musician(s)?

Broken XLR leads… no joke. There is no rage like broken XLR rage.

What is your ultimate dream as a band?

To be able to pay our bills from what we do. We don’t want much right? Just to be able to exist purely on the music we write.
