Highlights of the decade - 2010-2019

January is now in full swing and we are now into a new decade. This past decade has been life changing: becoming an adult, securing qualifications, securing freelance work, making friendships and discovering and watching the best of rock music plus much more.

Here I would like to share my best achievements, favourite memories, favourite events and favourite songs of the decade:

2010

Best achievement: Completing my GCSEs

Favourite memory: Watching my friends strip in a school classroom and breaking history for the worst Year 11s at Treloars.

Favourite event: Attending the football FA Cup final at Wembley Stadium: Portsmouth vs Chelsea (despite losing 1-0).

Favourite song: Na Na Na by My Chemical Romance

2011

Best achievement: Getting an A grade for my media studies coursework where I created a charity radio advert for RNIB.

Favourite memory: Meeting my crazy drinking buddy Steph Castelete.

Favourite event: Seeing Harry Potter an the Deathly Hallows Part 2 in the cinema

Favourite song: Walk by Foo Fighters

2012

Best achievement: Becoming a community writer for Disability Horizons and publishing my first ever article reviewing The Last Leg.

Favourite memory: Going on holiday to New York City

Favourite event: Reading Festival 2012

Favourite song: It’s Time by Imagine Dragons

2013

Best achievement: Completing my A-levels

Favourite memory: Victorious Festival

Favourite event: Muse live at Emirates Stadium

Favourite song: Modern Magic Formula by Biffy Clyro

2014

Best achievement: Joining The Young Company drama group

Favourite memory: Meeting my wonderful friend and live music partner, Kristy White

Favourite event: Linkin Park Arena

Favourite song: The Ones That I Love by Twin Atlantic

2015

Best achievement: Independently conducted a phone interview with a 6-year old girl’s mother about her daughter creating a model replica of the Titanic ship for school. Then wrote and published the article for The Portsmouth News.

Favourite memory: Being a bridesmaid at Steph & Paul’s wedding

Favourite event: Glastonbury Festival

Favourite song: Psycho by Muse

2016

Best achievement: Graduating from university with a 2:1 degree in Journalism

Favourite memory: Getting my pet rabbit Mickey

Favourite event: Biffy Clyro live at The O2

Favourite song: Still Breathing by Green Day

2017

Best achievement: Starting my blog Rock For Disability

Favourite memory: Moving into my first home

Favourite event: Harry Potter and the Cursed Child

Favourite song: The Sky is a Neighbourhood by Foo Fighters

2018

Best achievement: Securing my first featured interview with BBC weather presenter Lucy Martin and making it the most popular post of the year on Disability Horizons.

Favourite memory: Attending FriendsFest 2018 in London

Favourite event: Editors live in Bristol

Favourite song: Empress by Snow Patrol

2019

Best achievement: Becoming a full-time member of the Disability Horizons team and getting independent access to the website.

Favourite memory: Attending Naidex and meeting Warwick Davis

Favourite event: Bon Jovi live at Wembley Stadium

Favourite song: Now That I Found You by Liam Gallagher
