April 2022 summary: Return to the Wizarding World

April 2022

April 2022 has been another constructive month full of work and a couple of fun activities, including a return to the wizarding world.

Disability Horizons

As always, another busy month at DH HQ – which I love! I published two interviews with furniture designer Bruce Kenneth and actor Ruth Madeley. Plus, I conducted an interview with comedian and activist Jess Thom, who lives with Tourette’s syndrome. I also edited a few articles written by our community.

In addition, I published a shop blog post about adaptive clothing and uploaded more products to our online store.

All my Disability Horizons content is now available to view in one place on the Emma Purcell Author’s page. This link can also be accessed on the “Disability Horizons” button on the menu page on the left of this site.

My featured content, product articles and sponsored posts for Disability Horizons can be viewed in my Journo Portfolio.

To read my latest news stories, interviews and featured articles regularly, as well as browse other content from the rest of the amazing DH team, subscribe to the Disability Horizons newsletter.

Blog re-brand update

I’m continuing to edit my previous blog posts since moving to a self-hosting site. I know back in February I said I’d publish two music interview marathons in May and June, but due to the time it’s taking to restore old content and my other work commitments, I’ve pushed this back to July and August.

Thank you again for your continued patience and regular new content will return later this year.

Music

At the beginning of April, I got to enjoy my first night out of live music in 2022. I went to see the very talented and incredible singer-songwriter Jake Bugg in Southampton. I’ve published a full review, which you can read in my blog roundup below, but just want to say here what an amazing performance and it has got me pumped for my belated trips to My Chemical Romance and The Killers next month.

Books

As I mentioned in January, I’ve been trying to get through all my unread books stacked up in my Audible library. This month, I read the final four unread books –

  • Sweet Sorrow by David Nicholls
  • Not Quite Dating by Cathrine Bybee
  • Silent Child by Sarah A. Denzil
  • Stolen Girl by Sarah A.Denzil

Now I’ve finished the backlog of unread books and because it has been a very long 18 months, I think I deserve a return back to the wizarding world and re-read my beloved Harry Potter books.

TV & Film

Talking of the wizarding world, I went to the cinema to watch the third instalment of the Fantastic Beasts franchise – The Secrets of Dumbledore. It was a mind-blowing epic adventure film and answered so many questions about Dumbledore’s past.

I also watched the finale of Killing Eve but I was so disappointed by the ending and it just added more questions than answers. I think it should have finished at series three, to be honest.

I’ve also been watching a Netflix series called Locke and Key, which is about a family that lives in a kind of magical haunted house with a range of strange magical keys. I feel it was a slow start but I’m starting to get into it now. I wouldn’t mind some of those keys myself.

Audio Description petition

April 16th was Audio Description Awareness Day and my campaign for audio description has continued. The petition has now reached a total of 3463 signatures, which is incredible!

But I’m eager to reach thousands. The more signatures we get, the more likely changes could be made within the TV & films industries. Please, please, PLEASE continue to sign & share my petition!

Guest Bloggers Wanted

I’m still eager to collaborate with even more bloggers in 2022. So, if you’re a lifestyle, disability and/or music blogger, send me your blog stories. Plus let me know if you’d like me to feature on your blog as a guest blogger.

I’m flexible with any type of blog post; life story, disability awareness, music event, musician promotion – basically anything to do with life, disability or music!

In addition, I have a guest blog series called “RFD Question Time with…” where I interview disabled people and/or bloggers. If you’d like to be interviewed in this series, please also contact me.
