My summary of April 2019

April

The first quarter of 2019 has come to an end and spring is in full swing. In April, I have continued to be an obsessive, yet determined, workaholic:

Disability Horizons

My Disability Horizons interview project is taking off now. My interview with Sophie Morgan went live over two weeks ago and is receiving a lot of views already. I finished writing up questions for Warwick Davis, RJ Mitte and Nikki Fox and sent them off so just awaiting their answers now. I’m also in the process of securing interviews with vlogger Nikki Lilly and actor Ryan O’Connell.

All my Disability Horizons content is now available to view in one place on the Emma Purcell Author’s page. This link can also be accessed on the “Disability Horizons” button on the menu page on the left of this site.

My featured content, product articles and sponsored posts for Disability Horizons can be viewed in my Journo Portfolio.

To read my latest news stories, interviews and featured articles regularly, as well as browse other content from the rest of the amazing DH team, subscribe to the Disability Horizons newsletter.

Visiting Gunwharf Quays as AccessAble Champion

This month I went to visit Gunwharf Quays shopping centre in Portsmouth as AccessAble Champion. I was there to try out the access guide and do some filming of me accessing the shopping centre plus write up a blog post for AccessAble’s website.

Volunteering at Treloars

This month I’ve also secured some additional voluntary work at my former college, Treloars. A few weeks ago I attended my physiotherapy there when a member of staff put me in touch with the voluntary coordinator who said they could give me a role in the marketing department of the trust.

I have since been to my induction training and awaiting on my DBS check then will hopefully start the role soon. This is a great opportunity for me as it will allow me to work away from home for a few hours of the day, gain more experience within marketing and work in an environment who have helped me a lot over the years.

Books

Unfortunately this month, I failed miserably in sticking to my goal of reading classic literature. I got a bit sidetracked and ended up re-reading my all time favourite book series, Harry Potter. Although in my opinion, Harry Potter should be classed as classic literature.

TV

I have watched a couple of new TV series this month which I have mentioned in a blog post that you can see in my roundup below.

The first is a Netflix series called Special, which is a comedy about a 28-year-old with cerebral palsy trying to live independently. I can definitely relate to this program a lot. I’m planning to write a full review of this programme in a future blog post in the next few weeks.

The second series is a BBC comedy called Ghosts which is about a young couple who inherited a house which is haunted by ghosts who are previous residents of the house.

Dusty’s first adventures outdoors

My ginger and white rabbit Dusty is 6 months old now and has grown a lot. Over the Easter bank holiday, he got to explore my back garden for the first time.
