Review: Editors at The Marble Factory, Bristol | February 2023

Editors at The Marble Factory, Bristol Feb 2023

Last Thursday, I got the opportunity to see alternative rock band Editors live at The Marble Factory in Bristol for the second time and they were amazing again.

I first saw them at the same place and venue back in October 2018. They were so incredible last time that as soon as they announced a new tour for 2023, I knew I had to go again.

I admit I’m not a huge fan of Editors – I can take it or leave it when it comes to listening to their music on the radio or streamed online – but hearing them perform live is a whole different and spectacular experience.

After four years since I last saw them, I’m ashamed to say I still don’t know a lot of their song titles or lyrics. For me, I like Editors for their signature guitar riffs, booming bass lines and energetic drum beats.

This band shows that music doesn’t have to be about the songs and lyrics – although lead singer Tom Smith does have an iconic stunning voice.

At this gig, they performed 23 songs in total, with seven new tracks from their latest album EBM.

They played many of their greatest hits too including Bones, Sugar, Bullets, Blood, Smokers Outside The Hospital Doors, The Racing Rats, An End Has A Start, Papillon and my favourite Munich.

I couldn’t really say if this show was better than the show I saw in 2018. They were both extraordinary in equal measures.

I loved the 2018 gig for the unexpectedness I had for what the band would bring. I loved the 2023 gig for the fact they continued to bring the same enthusiasm, energy and power they brought at the previous show.
