January 2022 summary: Back to life, but another year older

January 2022

A new year, a new age and new professional adventures have started in January 2022.

Disability Horizons

First week of January I eased back into work mode at Disability Horizons and have already written several articles, edited content and secured several interviews, most of which will be published next month – so watch this space!

All my Disability Horizons content is now available to view in one place on the Emma Purcell Author’s page. This link can also be accessed on the “Disability Horizons” button on the menu page on the left of this site.

My featured content, product articles and sponsored posts for Disability Horizons can be viewed in my Journo Portfolio.

To read my latest news stories, interviews and featured articles on a regular basis, as well as browse other content from the rest of the amazing DH team, subscribe to the Disability Horizons newsletter.

Blog migration delays

As I mentioned last month, my blog migration to a self-hosted site has taken far longer than expected.

My 2021 content is now back live, but with technical difficulties and my workload at Disability Horizons, it may take me several weeks to fix all my content from 2017 to 2020 (unless someone can suggest an easier way?).

Birthday celebrations

The 18th January was my 28th birthday. The day itself was rather quiet but I got to enjoy lunch with Mum and a rendition of Happy Birthday sung by my drama class.

Then at the weekend I stayed at my friends – Steph and Paul – and we enjoyed two days of chatting, Nando’s, cake, booze, truth or dare game and Harry Potter Scrabble.

Books

Back at the start of 2021, my New Year’s resolution was to not read Harry Potter for an entire year. Not only did I accomplish this but exceeded expectations too by not reading them in January 2022 either.

Instead, I’ve been trying to get through all my unread books stacked up in my Audible library. I think I broke a record this month and read six books back to back –

• Troubled Blood by Robert Galbraith
• My Life With Hatti by Libby Clegg
• I’m Special by Ryan O’Connell
• Before and Laughter by Jimmy Carr
• How to Grow Old by John Bishop
• The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett

TV

I finished watching all four series of Strike, the TV adaptation of the Cormoran Strike books. I think it was a great series and I’m looking forward to series five – Troubled Blood – which I just finished reading.

I’ve also started watching two new Saturday night shows on ITV – Ant & Dec’s Limitless Win and The John Bishop Show.

Donations

As you may have seen in my previous posts and on social media, I’m still asking for more donations to help fund my future blog content and donate to four amazing charities.

Due to the changes to my blog, donations can be made via a PayPal link that I have created, which you can pay via PayPal or card.

I’ve also extended the 2021 deadline to 31st January 2022 because my site was offline for so long and people could not access the donation button.

So far, we have raised £120, with 20% going to four charities in honour of four friends that we have lost this year.

Head to the donations page to give what you can to support my blog and four incredible charities.

Audio Description petition

My campaign for audio description has continued throughout January 2022 and the petition has now gained an outstanding 3442 signatures, which is incredible!

But I’m eager to reach thousands. The more signatures we get, the more likely changes could be made within the TV & films industries. Please, please, PLEASE continue to sign & share my petition!

Guest Bloggers Wanted

I’m still eager to collaborate with even more bloggers in 2022. So, if you’re a lifestyle, disability and/or music blogger, send me your blog stories. Plus let me know if you’d like me to feature on your blog as a guest blogger.

I’m flexible with any type of blog posts; life story, disability awareness, music event, musician promotion – basically anything to do with life, disability or music!

In addition, I have a guest blog series called “RFD Question Time with…” where I interview disabled people and/or bloggers. If you’d like to be interviewed in this series, please also contact me.
