Music Interview: Blitz Union

Blitz-Union

Today we speak to Czech quartet Blitz Union about their creative mix of rock and electric dance music and the mysterious story behind “Mr.Blitz”.

Band Name: Blitz Union
Members: Mark Blitz (Singer & Composer), Schtorm (Bassist, Producer), Shodushi (Guitarist) & Governor (Drummer)
Genre: Electronic dance music (EDM) & rock
Founded:  January 2019
Originated From: Prague, Czech Republic
Discography: Revolution (EP, 2019) & Not Proud (EP, 2021)

How would you describe your music?

We call it EDM-Rock. Our music consists of heavy riffs, energy-driven rock elements and catchy EDM & pop hooks.

This fusion became very natural for us as we enjoy the freedom during the creation process.

There are so many options how you can approach a song by combining those two styles. It’s fun.

What is your musical creative process like?

Mark usually brings some lyric ideas with a very simple instrumental. If everyone likes it, we do the general arrangements together. Once the main structure of the song is done and agreed, Schtorm starts to work on the final production of the song.

In regards to the topics of our songs and inspiration itself, it is directly connected to the overall story of Blitz Union. There is a background “research” of a mysterious entity (“Mr.Blitz”?), which was actually the main reason for Blitz Union’s foundation.

There were a lot of unusual events that happened to me that led to some kind of communication with this force. We are still learning about what it means and going to reveal how those events influenced our music with our debut-album release. So, stay tuned!

How did the band form?

We, as the band you hear and see now, started recording and releasing music in 2019. However, the story of Blitz Union began way earlier. In fact, even during the time our parents were teenagers themselves.

After a few miraculous discoveries, signs and messages of a mysterious “Mr. Blitz” started arising, as briefly mentioned in our previous answer, we are still learning about what it means and going to reveal how those events influenced our music.

How did you come up with your band name?

The second part of the name ‘Union’ speaks for itself. Besides doing music, we try to create an experience, a movement and a natural union. A group of like-minded people who care about the whole, who care about life in general and do not focus exclusively on their personal profit.

The origin of ‘Blitz’ is again directly connected to the overall story. Please bear with us until the album release – we promise it will be worth it!

Who influenced you within the music industry?

We all grew up with the rock/metal bands that have been popular around the year 2000, such as Korn, Slipknot, Linkin Park, Mudvayne, Limp Bizkit, Rammstein, Static-X etc.

The influence of these bands is undeniably audible in our music. But we also dig the new electronic, dance & trap artists who became a big inspiration for our Union too.

Have you performed live much and what was your favourite gig to play at?

Well, we had a really great time in Kultur – und Eventzentrum Westand, Braunschweig, Germany, where we had a chance to play two nights in a row as a support act for the legendary rock band Oomph!.

There were about 2,000 people each night and they were amazing. The overall vibe was just unforgettable.

What is the best thing about being in a band?

I think it is freedom. You can fully express yourself. You can share all your experiences, thoughts, emotions, visions in a way you feel the most comfortable with. It is really your own world where you can do whatever you want. I enjoy this very much.

What’s the biggest problem you’ve had to overcome so far as a musician(s)?

I think the biggest challenge was the launch of Blitz Union itself. At the very beginning, there were a few doubts and uncertainties. We were not sure if we were ready for this already.

But during the first recording and brainstorming sessions, we started to be more and more confident about our decision and our goal. But then, before the first song and video, Revolution was released and we had a clear vision of where we wanted to head.

What plans have you got coming up this year?

You can expect new music and videos to be released regularly. Then we are going to reach the next milestone – our very first, full-length debut album, which is in progress already. So, stay tuned!

What is your ultimate dream as a band?

Well, we have learned over the time that setting up a specific goal is not advantageous. We just simply want to share the visions/messages that we receive through our music and spread it on as many records and live shows as possible. Plus, to group like-minded people who feel the same life as we do. This is the main purpose/meaning behind Blitz Union.
