Today I’d like to introduce singer/songwriter Dean England who tells us his love of connecting with people through music.
Artist’s Name: Dean England
Genre: Acoustic/Electric Blues/Rock
Founded: 2019
Originated From: Wakefield UK
Discography: Feel Think Do (EP)
How would you describe your music?
Ed Sheeran meets Stevie Ray Vaughan! It’s acoustic bluesy rock music. Full of soul and blended vocal harmonies.
What is your musical creative process like?
There’s no process really, it starts in different ways. A line, a melody, a riff. It will flow on from there if it’s meant to be if not it will fall by the wayside and stay in my mind with the other bits and pieces collected that never made it into a full song. If it feels right, then the song writes itself most of the time I find.
How did you start out as a musician?
I was in bands before, then for a few years I played with my sound trying out different things. But last year I really found my sound. I am happy with it and it feels natural to me.
Who influenced you within the music industry?
Stevie Ray Vaughan, The Eagles, Jimmy Hendrix, Guns & Roses, Richard Ashcroft are all very cool. Also, I love the old soul stuff. Sam Cooke, Sam and Dave, stuff like that.
Have you performed live much and what was your favourite gig to play at?
I have played a lot of live shows over the years. Lately it’s been different with lockdown. However, one of my favourite live shows to date was at the Brick and Liquor in Wakefield. It’s a cool bar and the crowd was very warm. The energy was great.
What is the best thing about being a musician?
That moment I write something I wanted to express and nail it. Then perform it live!! It’s all about the expression for me. And if I can write something that connects with others and gives them a way to express, then I am over the moon.
What’s the biggest problem you’ve had to overcome so far as a musician?
Well to be honest there’s always problems. From big to small but they don’t stand in the way if you want to become a successful musician. I am a one man show so at the moment I am working on making my sound bigger.
What plans have you got coming up this year?
I will keep doing the promo for the new EP this year Feel Think Do and getting it out to as many people as possible. Then next year the new single is coming out so please keep an ear out for that.
What is your ultimate dream as a musician?
I want to keep growing and keep gaining fans and get my music out to people. So many times, a great song has got me through a dark day. And I would love to be that song that offers the light to others when they need it.
