My summary of March 2019

March

I have been an extremely busy bee again this month; Writing up numerous articles, attending events and networking with various people.

Disability Horizons

As I mentioned last month, my workload at Disability Horizons has grown lots. I have begun conducting interviews with various famous disabled people for the online magazine. So far I have secured interviews with Sophie Morgan, Jules Robertson, RJ Mitte and Warwick Davis. Sophie has sent me her answers and I’m in the process of writing up the article. The others I’m still awaiting answers and still prepping for interviews. Unfortunately Ade Adepitan and Liz Carr are currently unavailable for interviews but I hope to try and get them involved again later on this year.

On 12th March, I attended as Disability Horizons reporter at the Outstanding Attitude Awards, created by disability charity, Attitude Is Everything; which celebrated accessibility for deaf and disabled people at music venues across the UK.

Furthermore, I went to Naidex, a disability exhibition that showcases businesses and charities that support independence for disabled people. I was lucky enough to meet with the teams at Disability Horizons and AccessAble.

All my Disability Horizons content is now available to view in one place on the Emma Purcell Author’s page. This link can also be accessed on the “Disability Horizons” button on the menu page on the left of this site.

My featured content, product articles and sponsored posts for Disability Horizons can be viewed in my Journo Portfolio.

Books

As part of my challenge to read more classic literature, this month I read two books from the Chronicles of Narnia series by C.S Lewis. I read book 1: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and book 2: Prince Caspian. I was already aware of the stories and have watched the film adaptations in the past. I was rather surprised as to how short they were and they didn’t have as much detail as I expected. I did consider reading the whole series but to be honest, I became rather bored by the second book.

I then got sidetracked by reading romantic books by Sophie Kinsella, whose work I have admired for a few years now and really enjoy reading.

Blogging customisation

I’m also pleased to say I have finally completed customising my new theme on this blog. I am now using a theme called Sapor which I love but I did have a few difficulties changing the colour scheme of the links and laying out some of the widgets. However with a bit of perseverance, patience and googling various instructions and tutorials, I finally managed to make my blog look the way I wanted it.

It’s not too plain, it’s not too colourful but it’s just right. I chose purple as my main colour because it is the colour of disability and as disability is a big part of my blog, I thought it was the best choice of colour. Please let me know your thoughts on how my blog’s new look and suggest any tweaks or changes you might like to see.
