I would have to admit out of the mammoth of gigs this year, this is awarded as my guilty pleasure show of the year.
Scouting For Girls, the pop-rock boy band from London, performed at the O2 Academy in Bournemouth. They entered the stage to the Rocky theme tune which I thought was highly amusing. I could sense a lot of humour was on its way to their performance.
They played all their hits including It’s Not About You, This Ain’t a Love Song & She’s So Lovely. When performing Elvis Ain’t Dead, they added a cover of Elvis’s track (Can’t help) Falling In Love With You.
They also surprised me by playing their bonus track Michaela Strachan which is actually my favourite song from them but didn’t expect them to play it – so I was very happy inded.
In addition, the band did a cover of Livin’ On A Prayer by Bon Jovi, but unfortunately Roy couldn’t hit the high notes so the crowd had to help. There was one loyal Bon Jovi fan in our group who didn’t approve the cover – no names mentioned)
I would like to give their support act a mention too. Ben Mckelvey is a newly established singer/songwriter. He is a multi-talented musician. He can play guitar, a pedal bass drum and a harmonica plus singing as a one man band which I think is amazing. I loved the song Stay Young, specifically because it has the line “Can karma touch you when you’re blind and you can’t see” which I whooped at every time it was sang. I think he has a great career ahead of him and look forward to discovering more of his music.
Overall it was a fun filled Friday night of laughter and sing along to old school pop and rock tunes!
