Chasing Cars named most popular song on UK radio of the 21st century

The UK's most popular song of the 21st century

Chasing Cars is an epic ballad by Irish band, Snow Patrol, which was released in 2006. This week it was named most popular song on UK radio of the 21st century.

It never reached number one in the UK but did peak at number six in the chart and spent 166 weeks in the Top 100.

Lead singer, Gary Lightbody, described the track as; “an emotionally open song, and it’s a simple song. But it’s also unabashedly a love song, and we don’t really have any others. The way it unifies an audience is the thing I most cherish about it. It’s a beautiful moment every time you play it.”

It also featured in a few TV shows including American hospital series Grey’s Anatomy, the finale of One Tree Hill and, of course, the wedding music in Gavin & Stacey.

Snow Patrol have also recently release a new song titled Time Won’t Go Slowly, which is another simplistic, love song.
