Westy Drama Groups Christmas performance: Olivia Twist

Westy Drama Groups Performance Olivia Twist

In September 2018 I joined an adult drama group at the West End Centre in Aldershot. This term we have been working on our Christmas performance which is a modernised version of Charles Dickens’ story Oliver Twist.

The greatest twist of this story is our main character will be played by a girl with the name Olivia Twist.

I have been attending two hour rehearsals every Tuesday for the past 11 weeks and it has been great fun. Everyone has been welcoming, friendly and filled with a lot of laughter. I love being able to leave the house, interact with other people, escape from reality for a couple of hours and not having to rely on carers throughout.

I’ve attended many theatre groups over the past 15 years but have not taken part in a production of this scale before. As well as the adult group, we will also be performing alongside the children and teenage groups too. Therefore there will be a total of 40 cast members; unlike previous groups where I’ve performed with 15-20 people. We haven’t actually done a full run through with all the cast yet but we do have 3 extra rehersals next week – busy few evenings coming up for me!

I will be playing two characters plus appear in a couple of ensemble pieces. There is a fair amount of music in this performance too including songs by Madness, Bob Dylan, Queen, The Beatles, The Progues and John Lennon. And let’s not forget the iconic Oliver song Food Glorious Food.

We are performing on Monday 10th & Tuesday 11th December 2018 at 19:30.
To book tickets, please go to the West End Centre website or call the box office on 01252 330040. We hope to see you there!
