Catching up and counting down

Tree sounded autumn leaves

As I write this sentence, I am sat in bed and it is 11:41pm on Thursday 25th October. So as you can gather this post is very Impromptu and not at all planned or scheduled – rookie blogger mistake! But to be fair I have spent most of this week researching more blogging strategies. So my blog has not been forgotten! However I was determined to not let my loyal followers down and thought I would use this post to give you a catch up on how my autumn has been so far and let you know the events I am counting down to, both in my life and on my blog, in the coming months.

Master’s degree

Firstly, back in August, I shared with you that I was considering studying a masters degree next year. So far, I’ve attended two open days and scheduled to visit three more in November. At the moment I’m still not sure if I want to pursue further study but I will visit the remaining universities first then share with you my thoughts and verdict end of November/early December.

Employment

Secondly, i’ve been on the mission to secure employment for a majority of this year. I applied for several media internships throughout spring and summer with no success. I even applied for an administration role at my former school, Treloar’s, and made sure I did extra preparation for the interview, but unfortunately still got rejected. I asked for feedback and these were their exact words: “Emma came across confident and enthusiastic, however her answers to the interview question didn’t best illustrate her knowledge or experience but rather re-stated what she had put down in her application form. Sorry that this she wasn’t chosen for this role but we wish her all the best in her future career search.”

Yes, I did say things that were in my application but not word for word and what else could I have said other than the knowledge and experience I already have?!

Since then I’ve taken a break from the job hunt and been focusing on my blog and voluntary work for Disability Horizons and MDUK.

Care

Another difficult issue I am continuing to deal with is finding suitable live-in carers. Last year I shared some stories of poor quality care I’ve had to encounter in my current home and at school & college. Unfortunately, problems are continuing to occur.

For the first four months of 2018, I had my Mum care for me without any respite because I could not find any suitable carer. Then in April, I finally secured a carer but in July, after only three 2 week shifts, she quit the company due to “personal reasons”.

Seven weeks later the agency I was with sent me a carer who had never done live-in care before, was extremely homesick, refused to support me in social events and to be honest, quite lazy and selfish. As a result I had to let her go.

I met with another potential carer last week and was quite hopeful but the morning she was due to start, I got a message saying she had injured her back and will not be coming. Since then, the office cannot get in touch with her. Therefore I suspect she changed her mind on the job and couldn’t be honest with us.

However, I received an email today about meeting another possible carer next week so we will see what happens. I just feel disappointed and frustrated that I cannot find suitable carers that fit all my needs.

Mickey the rabbit

The saddest story of all was having to say goodbye to my pet rabbit, Mickey, who unexpectedly passed away last month after only having him under two years. He was so cute, soft, fluffy, cuddly and friendly and I will miss him so much. 🐰😢💔

Gigs and events

On a positive note, i’ve got to enjoy some fun outings in the past few weeks;
Arctic Monkeys live at The O2,
Friendsfest 2018 in London,
Editors live in Bristol and Jeff Lynne’s ELO live at The O2 Arena (review coming on Monday).

I also have more excited events coming up in the next few weeks –

  • Laugh Out Loud Comedy Club at Portsmouth Guildhall
  • Courteeners live at O2 Southampton Guildhall
  • One year Blogiversary!!! 🤓👩‍💻🤩😍❤️
  • CHRISTMAS!!!! 🎅🤶🎄☃️⛄️❄️🥂🍻❤️💚❤️💚❤️
  • My first New Year party in 16 years!!! 🥂🍻🎆

Fundraiser at MDUK

And finally, a reminder I’m doing a fundraiser for Muscular Dystrophy UK this weekend and would really appreciate your support by donating via the Paypal button below.

Every donation I receive from a fellow blogger will get a mention in next Friday’s post as a thank you!

It is now 2:48am and I am off for some well-deserved sleep… Goodnight and thanks for reading!
