Review: The Pigeon Detectives in Portsmouth

Emma and Kristy at The Pigeon Detectives

The day was Tuesday, 31 October 2017 and it was the beginning of my autumn/winter marathon of music gigs. First on the list were The Pigeon Detectives at the Wedgewood Rooms in Portsmouth.

This show was particularly special as it was celebrating the 10th anniversary of their album, Wait For Me which they played in full along with some B-sides and a few songs from their other successful album, Emergency. The music had that pop-rock feel that we know and love with easy lyrics for the crowd to sing-along to.

They performed at an intimate venue in the centre of Southsea, Portsmouth. There was only one entrance and due to delay we had to queue in the street in the cold until they were ready to let us enter (Not so good with limited circulation in your body). Once inside the venue, there was no particular area for wheelchairs to sit.

For me I quite liked this as it means I can mingle within the rest of the crowd. Plus my wheelchair can raise up so I felt like I was standing in the crowd with everyone else. In addition, as we were quite close to the stage, I got to see the band and their instruments with my own eyes. Usually we are far back and due to my poor vision, I either can’t see the stage at all or I have to rely on the big screens. Therefore being able see the show in real life is pretty awesome for a blind bat!
